Hi all. I think there should be a clear history button on the qn history for those with premium mebership, I just looked and I have forty four hundred qn's. wow! anyone agree?

I agree it would help if it is doable...

Post 3 by admin (I just keep on posting!) on Sunday, 17-Apr-2005 20:21:57

Hmm. Would have to think about that one. Since everyone works off the same history and clearing yours would clear other people.

I didn't know that, hmm maybe somehow set it up so only ours is cleared lol yeah that's helpful good one vel...

if you coudl make that an individual thing, it makes sense to me, though I can't afford to go premium, but it makes sense, if it's possible

the search field s on quicknote history are quite well defineable though, you can even search by certain text etc, so if there is certain history you don't feel you need to see, simply refine the search to make it unseen.

gee, thanks people. Making our admin code more when he's so swamped with other stuff! (Yeah, right!)

Admin I thought it might be pulling like that from one setup...Well, I mean, only one kept set of data, and everyone's pulling from the same set. There, did that make more sense? LOL, It's a great idea, but like I said...If it's doable.

I don't want to get murderedhere, but md and other leaders think about this. Teh site's crashed a bit tonight and while i know that it can happen, what if the site expands and more and more history comes on? why not be able to delete it so that it will take upless space?

Post 10 by sugarbaby (The voice of reason) on Wednesday, 20-Apr-2005 3:22:50

how about if the public quicknotes were cleared say once a month. after all, do people really go and check the public qn's that regularly or that far back. a month of quicknotes would, I imagine, be enough to look at? and I'd imagine this could potentially be done without it affecting the private qn's.

Post 11 by chocolab (move over school!) on Wednesday, 20-Apr-2005 11:26:07

I still really don't see a need for the history, I understand to look something up,but maybe sugar baby's idea is a good one. Maybe with everything once a month, or possibly there could be a way to save it in your private mail folders if you wanted to keep it. I know admin, more code. sorry. Just my take.

I'm not premium, but I'd have to agree with post 10.

I submit to you this simple reason for cleaing the qn history. The sige's been lagging for a lot of people and I don't think it should be like that for those who have boradband and who are also premium embers. I asked a friend to do an experiment. Load oen of the pages, then click on the qn history. They did and told me that it took a bit longer. Okso it's not that big of a deal, butstill why waste traffic with qn history when ti can be directed somewhereelse.

Post 14 by sugarbaby (The voice of reason) on Thursday, 28-Apr-2005 11:22:17

the problem with clearing qn history thouhgh vel is that qn history is considered to be a feature of premium membership, if you start clearing the history, you are essentially taking away a feature which premium members have paid for.

I understand SB but I still guess I don't see why so much space is devoted to that when really I wonder how offten it's needed? I'm not saying it's a bad feature, but I just think a lot of space is wasted on it. I also apologize for spelling errors in my last post.

Post 16 by Chris N (I just keep on posting!) on Thursday, 28-Apr-2005 17:09:29

The quicknote history doesn't really take that much space, and it's really only searched when you use the quicknote history page (which can be slow). The quicknotes displayed on the site use a different skeme so that the entire table doesn't need to be searched. For those who care, indexes are also in place to speed up those table lookups. The crashes that have been mentioned are due to the cpanel control panel software running on the machine where zonebbs.com is hosted. It's being looked into.

Yeah people, so chill izzle! Chris has spoken! Hmmm, well, you know I had to put my two cents in.

Right. QN history doesn't take up a lot of space, as far as the text. The reason it's premium mostly is because of the database work that's needed to retrieve the old notes. The only things that take up much space are audio, pictures, and video.
